Roger Sugden has been
appointed Dean of the
Faculty of Management at
UBC’s Okanagan campus,
effective in October 2012.
Dr. Sugden, appointed to a five-year term, comes to UBC from the
University of Stirling, Scotland,
where he has been a professor of socio-economic development
and founding Head of the Management School and Head of
Internationalization. He has led numerous prominent initiatives
for the European Commission and British Council.
Prior to Stirling, Dr. Sugden served twice as Head of the Department of Commerce at the University of Birmingham, part of one
of the oldest and most respected business schools in England.
Dr. Sugden earned PhD and master’s degrees in economics
from Warwick University, as well as a law degree from Sheffield

where research is being conducted

An active researcher in the field
of human kinetics, Dr. Binsted has
served as acting Dean since 2011.
Dr. Binsted earned a PhD in psychology at the University of
Alberta, a Master of Science degree in human biodynamics
at McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in
human kinetics at the University of British Columbia.

Melanie O’Brian is
the new director of
Simon Fraser Uni-
versity’s Audain, Teck
and SFU art galleries. Most recently,
Ms. O’Brian was curator and head
of programs at the Power Plant
Contemporary Art Gallery in
Toronto. She held previous positions
as director/curator at Artspeak in
Vancouver and assistant curator at
the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Lawrence Bloomberg was named
chancellor of Ryerson University,
effective Oct. 19. Mr. Bloomberg is
chair of the board of directors of
BloombergSen Inc., an investment
counseling firm. He is a director
of the National Bank of Canada
and is currently an adviser to
National Bank Financial.
Aileen Clark a été nommé direc-
trice de la Division de l’éducation

Jody Gordon is the
University of the
Fraser Valley’s new
students. Previously, she was
associate vice-president, students,
and an adjunct professor in the
criminology department at
Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Jennifer DeDominicis was
appointed vice-president, enrolment and student services, and
registrar at Emily Carr University
of Art + Design. She began her
new position on Oct. 22. Ms.
DeDominicis joins Emily Carr
from the University of Guelph-Humber, where she served as
campus registrar. Prior to that, she
held various positions in student
services in Calgary, including at
the Alberta College of Art + Design
and SAIT Polytechnic.
Dyer Knight its new
Dr. Knight is a music educator
and choral conductor, who received
the Order of Canada in 2004.
She holds an honorary doctorate
from Memorial University and
was named the university’s
Alumna of the Year in 2000.
Nipissing University appointed
Richard Onley its new vice-president, finance and administration,
as of Sept. 12. Mr. Onley is a
chartered accountant with more
than 25 years of experience in the
field. He has served as a member
of Nipissing University’s board
of governors since 2011.
