The Faculty of Arts & Science is a vibrant intellectual community of students and scholars who are deeply committed to
excellence, discovery and diversity. The Faculty is the University’s largest and is home to some of the world’s finest academic
departments and interdisciplinary centres and institutes. Every undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts & Science is also
registered in one of seven distinctive colleges, giving students the advantage of the Faculty’s great breadth alongside the intimate
scale of college living and learning communities. Graduate students come to the Faculty from around the world to study and
conduct research with internationally recognized scholars in some of the most highly regarded programs in North America.
The Faculty launched its Boundless Campaign in March of 2012, with a $250 million fundraising goal to support student
scholarships, endowed chairs, and key academic initiatives like international study opportunities and ‘Big Ideas’ courses. Donors
have already contributed more than $180 million towards the campaign goal, demonstrating the active engagement of the
Faculty’s alumni and friends.
The Dean will provide dynamic leadership in the areas of undergraduate and graduate curriculum and academic programs, research
excellence, faculty and staff complement planning, budgeting, external relations, and strategic planning. He/she also participates
in setting directions and supporting the values, vision and mission of the University. The Dean will have an outstanding academic
record; a deep appreciation for research, teaching, and the student experience; in-depth knowledge of the issues facing higher
education; and demonstrated administrative experience in a university setting, including a strong commitment to advancement.
