St. Jerome's University - The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at St.
Jerome's University invites applications for
a tenure-track appointment in Legal Studies
at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2014. St. Jerome's University, situated in the heart of the University of
Waterloo campus, is a public Roman Catholic university federated with the University
of Waterloo since 1960. The University is
committed to advancing the Catholic intellectual tradition and welcomes faculty and
students from all faiths and backgrounds.
Legal Studies is an interdisciplinary and
multi-disciplinary program that offers Honours, Joint Honours, and Four-Year General
undergraduate degrees. The Legal Studies
program draws from Sociology, Psychology,
Political Science, Accounting, History, Philosophy, Planning, Environmental Studies,
Peace and Conflict Studies, and other disciplines. Given the interdisciplinary nature of
the program, the successful candidate will
work with colleagues across disciplines
within a Catholic institution committed to
its mission "to educate the whole person."
The successful candidate will have a PhD in
Legal Studies, the Humanities, or a Social
Science discipline or field. Candidates with
a law degree are encouraged to apply. We
are especially interested in applications
from candidates with expertise in Legal
Studies and who conduct research in and/
or can teach any of the following subjects:
psychology (forensic psychology, psychology and law, criminal profiling), family or
sexuality and the law, or history of law. The
successful applicant should be able to teach
first-year courses in Introduction to Legal
Studies and Introduction to Criminal Law
and fourth-year senior Honours Seminar
courses in Legal Studies. A keen interest in
interdisciplinary research and teaching is
desired. A clear history of innovation in the
area of teaching and learning is also desirable. Faculty members must demonstrate
teaching and research excellence, have a
strong sense of collegiality, demonstrate a
commitment to service, and contribute a
strong research agenda. As of May 1, 2012,
the base salary for an Assistant Professor is
$72,309. Candidates should send a letter

agenda, two sample publications, and

Applications are invited for two full-time tenure track positions, at the
Assistant Professor level. These positions are available July 1, 2014
(subject to final budget approval) and involve teaching in nursing programs at the baccalaureate, MSc, and PhD levels, pursuit of a program
of research, and service to the profession and community. New faculty
benefit from an initial reduced teaching load, and research establishment funding is available for suitably qualified candidates.
At the commencement of appointment, candidates must have a doctoral degree, preferably in nursing. One graduate degree in nursing is
required or an active research profile with a nursing focus. Candidates
must have a current certificate from the College of Nurses of Ontario or
eligibility for a certificate; university teaching experience preferred.
Priority will be given to individuals who have an active research profile
with a nursing focus and practice expertise in acute care; primary
health; community; long term care, or a combination of these areas of
expertise, or best qualified candidate.
