Pierre Cossette a été
nommé au poste de
doyen de la Faculté
de médecine et des
sciences de la santé à l’Université
de Sherbrooke pour un deuxième
mandat se terminant en juillet
2018. Doyen depuis septembre
2010, M. Cossette était auparavant
directeur du Département de
médecine, Service de médecine
interne, depuis 2004.
Airini (which is her
full name), an accom-
plished researcher
on education reform
and at-risk student education, will
become the new dean of the fac-
ulty of human, social and educa-
tional development at Thompson
Rivers University. Most recently,
Dr. Airini was a Fulbright scholar
at Howard University and an
associate professor at the Univer-
sity of Auckland, where she
helped found the school of critical
studies in education. While at
TRU, Dr. Airini has been retained
to sit on a government task force
on revamping the educational
system in New Zealand.
Sept. 1 marked the
start of Pam Ratner’s
two-year term as
senior associate dean,
administration and innovation,
with the faculty of education at
the University of British Colum-
bia. Dr. Ratner has been a faculty
member with the school of nursing
since 1996. She was seconded to
the faculty of education in 2013
to serve as the head pro tem of
the department of education
studies for one year. Her research
is based in socio-behavioural
epidemiology and psychometrics
and focuses on heart disease
risk reduction.

reporter Susan
Danard is the
University of British
Columbia’s new director of public
affairs. She spent 15 years in
print and broadcast journalism
with staff positions at the Victoria
Times Colonist and CKVU Vancouver before moving into communications at TransLink and BC
Hydro. Ms. Danard chairs the
advisory council of Royal Roads
University’s school of communication and culture. She started
at UBC on Sept. 2.

devenu directeur

cancérologie de l’Université de
Montréal (IRIC) pour un mandat
de quatre ans. M. Bouvier est
professeur au Département de
biochimie et médecine molécu-
laire de la Faculté de médecine,
et président et directeur général
d’IRICOR, l’organisme de
commercialisation de la recherche
de l’IRIC.
Trinity Western
University has
named Earl Phillips
executive director
of the university’s forthcoming
law school. Formerly a Vancouver-
based managing partner of the
law firm McCarthy Tétrault, Mr.
Phillips will work on planning
and strategy at the school of law.
The school will accept its first
class of students in 2016. Mr.
Phillips specialized in labour and
employment law before retiring
from full-time legal practice in
2013. The appointment began
on Sept. 2.
