Knowledge is beautiful.
In other words, U of S researchers are designing a tiny
camera that you swallow to take high-quality pictures
of the inside of your body, helping doctors diagnose
and treat conditions like internal bleeding, Crohn’s
disease, ulcers and colon cancer.
Our researchers in the College of Engineering are developing
a next-generation endoscopy system, using vitamin-sized
capsules containing a video camera, battery, light-emitting
diode and transmitter. Once swallowed, wireless image
compression software and custom microchips transmit
superior images using multi-spectral imaging.
