The Faculty of Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland, invites applications for
two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank, in the areas of Literacy Education
and Special Education beginning September 1, 2016 (subject to budgetary approval).
Literacy Education (VPA-EDUC-2016-002)
Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree related to literacy education,
experience teaching Language Arts in the K- 6 classroom environment, scholarly
publications in the area of literacy, and a research program that can attract external
funding. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses focused on literacy, and provide mentoring and supervision of students in
graduate programs.
Special Education (VPA-EDUC-2016-003)
Applicants must have a PhD in Special Education (or a related discipline) and have a
strong background in K- 12 education with a displayed knowledge of supporting teachers
in accommodating students in contemporary classrooms. Applicants should also have
knowledge and experience in teaching students with diverse abilities. Those with a
background in remedial math and/or behavior management are encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses
with a particular focus on inclusive education and differentiated instruction. Successful
candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and
maintain an active research and service agenda.
Candidates for each position are invited to submit a letter of application, including a
current curriculum vitae, the names of three referees (two of whom should be academic
referees), a statement of teaching philosophy, a description of a research agenda, and a
