The Department of Civil Engineering at Memorial University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor commencing January 2017 or shortly
In the first position (reference ENGI-2016-2010), the successful candidate will be expected to
focus his/her teaching and research programs on structural engineering and mechanics. He/she
will be expected to develop an active research program in one or more of the following areas:
theoretical and numerical mechanics, structural dynamics, design of steel structures, loads on
structures, or structural design of offshore and marine structures.
In the second position (reference ENGI-2016-004), the successful candidate will focus his/her
research program on pavement performance and design in cold environments. Examples of
such research programs could include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following areas:
development and characterization of grade and subgrade materials and pavement performance
for cold regions, pavement design, construction, durability and rehabilitation, asphalt/bituminous
materials and mix design, non-destructive testing of pavement, or service-life prediction
modelling of pavement. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in pavement,
highway design and surveying as well as other civil engineering courses as needed.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering. S/he must also have an undergraduate
degree in Civil Engineering and will be expected to register as a professional engineer in
Newfoundland and Labrador. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
