Vision, Disability Studies, and the Arts
Applications are invited for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair
(CRC) in the area of Vision, Disability Studies, and the Arts.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure-track
position in AMPD at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate
Professor. We seek a candidate who demonstrates excellence
or emerging excellence in scholarship/research and teaching in
disability studies and the arts, with a broad emphasis on vision
and visuality. While we are particularly interested in candidates
who specialize in disability and the arts, culture, media, and
design, we also welcome candidates who demonstrate a
breadth of knowledge and experience in critical disability
studies from a range of disciplinary frameworks, such as public
policy, law, labour studies, architecture, education, neuroscience,
and health. The successful candidate must have a PhD, an
outstanding record of research, and experience working with
undergraduate and graduate students. Tier 2 Chairs have five-
year terms, once renewable, and are intended for exceptional
emerging researchers (less than 10 years post terminal
degree) who have the acknowledged potential to lead their
field of research. Applicants who are more than 10 years
from their highest degree, and where career breaks
exist, may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 CRC assessed
through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. York
is particularly interested in candidates with diverse backgrounds
and especially encourages candidates in equity, diversity and
inclusion categories. York acknowledges the potential impact
that career interruptions can have on a candidate’s record of
research achievement and encourages applicants to explain in
their application the impact that career interruptions may have
had on their record of research achievement. The deadline for
completed applications is November 30, 2017.
